Struggling with solving a problem or getting started? Try these quick thinking tips:
1. Box the time – even if you have 5 days to complete the assignment give yourself a maximum of 30 minutes to ‘do the thinking’. This gets you starting the task, provides some urgency and allows it to be something small that can be fitted in with other things.
2. If you’re not writing you’re not thinking – you need to be writing things down so that your brain can register one thought and move on to the next thought. It helps you to see connections not just to the last point that you made but also, through your peripheral vision, to other things that spring to mind as you’re working through the process.
3. Write large – give yourself lots of space and really roam across it. As you get accustomed to thinking in this way you’ll find that you get more confident using that whole space and that the act of combining space with content also unlocks the thinking process.
Very good advice – it works!
